The Importance of Books
Every year I work a conference for a local church. I teach junior high and high school students about the importance of college and a college degree. Last year the conference was entitled "Readers are Leaders!"
I wondered about that the past couple of weeks, not only because the conference is coming up again this year but I think about the greatest leaders of the world and how much they read both for fun as well as for information.
I have found that each time I read a book I have the ability to massage and really process the words coming off the page. When you hear something there isn't a pause button that allows you to really think about what has been said. You can never fully think about the spoken words because there is always more words coming to consider. I think that is why I like to read books. I can pause, re-read, get references, do more research, and fully consider what the author has to say. Sometimes I have been so busy doing other things that I listen to audiobooks. While this is a nice option to get more readings in, it again does not allow the person to really massage the materials.
One day I aspire to have a library like this in my home. Filled with both books I've read and books I'm about to read too. Until tomorrow, my friends...Keep reading!
