Ms. Evelyn
My neighbor, Ms. Evelyn died one week ago today. She lived to be 90 years old and walked her granddog up and down the neighborhood for exercise. Sometimes she and I would walk together and she would tell me about her life as a young woman, her children, the children who had passed, her grand children and her great grandchildren. But most of all she had a spark of energy and life around her. She moved slowly and deliberately but she always said, by the grace of God she didn't have any pain. But I knew she was in pain. That's the beauty of getting older, you're in pain, but you just can't remember it.
I hadn't seen her around the neighborhood much these past couple months and now I know why. She was a beautiful woman inside and out. She didn't take no guff. "After all you don't get to be 90 years old and be stupid." I am sure she is happy to be in heaven with her sons now. She had been on my mind for a few days before she passed.
Goodbye Ms. Evelyn aka "Granny".
Scooter and I will miss you.
