Meetings

There is one thing I despise more than anything as an adult (other than paying bills) and that is meetings. I think I would rather have a tooth pulled than attend some of the meetings I have to attend. Typically I hate meetings because it just means I'll get more work to do when I usually don't have enough time to finish the work I already have to do. That lovely little catch phrase every Human Resources office places on job descriptions "other duties as assigned" typically becomes all the duties I have time to complete. So, my work gets pushed down on the people below me and then they push work on the people below them.

In my last job I was the lowest on the food chain even though I had the most experience and the most knowledge. (but that is another blog posting...) I remember some of my colleagues asking "who handles this item..." I do. "Well, who handles that?" I do. "Well, what about that over there? Who handles that?" I do that too.... "Well crap rolls down hill!" Yes, and I am in the gutter. It seemed as everyone's great idea became my special project to ensure its success. It seems like wherever I travel to, I get the responsibility of the entire placed on my shoulders and ZERO of the pay. And all of these assignments were given to me in meetings...

In the last month I had over 20 meetings and I was gone for one week; plus this doesn't count the text messages, email and other communicative meetings I had with individuals over the month. And even with all this communication, it seems meetings took up a majority of my time and stole all the hours of the day to actually get my work done.
