Growing Older

Bette Davis once said, "Getting old is not for sissies.” And she ain't lying. Not that I am particularly old, but I have reached the stage where I am having to help the older generation with basic needs and functions.

It is a lot. Like, a lot, a lot. It's overwhelming, and depressing, and tiring, and all encompassing, and emotional, and worrisome, and everything else all at the same time. It takes a few days just to slow down when you're literally running from place to place and thing to thing all the time.

From 24/7 work for work, school, foundation work, board work, and taking care of elderly friends there is no time left for me. But, it cannot all be about giving to others. While, I am the QUEEN of selfless devotion and service for all, sister-girl need a break!

The older we become, the more responsibility we take on. The responsibility of home ownership, family, aging parents, civic responsibility... the list goes on and on. But don't neglect the most important responsibility there is. The responsibility for your own happiness. You cannot give or inspire others if you, yourself are not fulfilled. Growing older tackles many responsibilites; make sure you are of them.
