The Life Ones Lived...

“I come to embrace the notion that I haven’t done enough in my life. I come to confirm that one’s title, even a title like president of the United States, says very little about how well one’s life has been led — and that no matter how much you’ve done, or how successful you’ve been, there’s always more to do, always more to learn, and always more to achieve.” - President Barack Obama, Commencement Address at Arizona State University, May 13, 2009.

Today is a special day. Today, I become the first of all my friends to turn 40. Sometimes it's great having a birthday in January and leading the pack. And then there is today when you're reminded just how old you're becoming. Now, don't get me wrong, I understand that I only have two options about growing older; do or die. But I seem to feel like I'm getting closer to the die part...

This is NOT where I expected my life to be at age 40. But this is where I am. Way back in 2009 I read this quote from President Obama. His cool intellect and humbleness spoke volumes to me about the man he is. I am reminded that life is a journey and my journey isn't over. Because there is always moe to do, always more to learn and always more to achieve.

Happy 40th Birthday to me! May the second half of my life have just as much meaning as the first half. And maybe just a little bit more.
