"Go Back"
Recently the resident Chief Cheeto told four minority women to go back to the country they came from if they do not like the United States as it is and where it is going. Never mind the fact that these women were either born or naturalized citizens of the United States, it seems as though anyone who disagrees with the current state of the union should "just leave."
I completely understand this type of thinking from a person who has been married a few times. Not that divorcing is an easy way out. It is not; however, it looks as though its an easier option than actually working through problems. I have been thinking about this for a while and I wonder if this particular cheeto makes the suggestion because he's never fought for anything that might cost him everything.
When you love something, you fight tooth and nail to keep it or to make it better than it currently is. Both parties have to be willing to work on making the relationship better and be committed to working the process. This is VERY difficult to do and means that pride has to get set aside and vulnerability be shown. Soldiers fight for this country every day and fight for the freedoms of Americans to have. They fight so we have the freedom of speech, and they fight so that we can make this space representative of what this country stands for. The act of fighting to make this space a better place is an act of love. It is an act of dedication. It is the act of responsibility.
These four women are using their positions to ensure that the United States continues to stand for the principles in which it was founded (an example of love). These women get up everyday in the face of death threats to themselves, their families, their staff and their staff's families (an example of dedication). These women get up everyday and fight for what their constituents want to happen in the United States (an act of responsibility).
Whether you agree with the politics of their fight or not, they are fighting to keep this country together in a time where hate, fear and ignorance dominates the evening news. If these women leave DC and go back to their home (states) and never speak again, we will have lost what this country says is important, "freedom of speech," allowing people to "life" (those death threats put a damper on that), "liberty" (the state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one's way of life, behavior, or political views) and the "pursue happiness" (to freely pursue joy and live life in a way that makes you happy, as long as you don't do anything illegal or violate the rights of others).
